About The Canine Care Review
An editorial publication and review aggregator covering products for dog owners. We combine in-house editorial testing with aggregated customer-review signal to produce a single trustworthy verdict.
What we do
The Canine Care Review was founded in 2023 to address the gap between two existing models — editorial reviews (rigorous but written from a single household) and aggregator ratings (broad but unaudited). We do both. Every product we cover passes through our editorial trial and our customer-review aggregation pipeline. The verdict combines the two.
We are an editorial team of six, based in Brooklyn, New York. We operate as a small publication with a rotating panel of contributor households whose dogs participate in our testing pool.
The editorial team
The Canine Care Review publishes most reviews under a collective byline because most reviews combine work from multiple team members — the in-life trial is run by one household, the customer-review aggregation is run by another, and the vet sign-off is provided by our consulting clinician. Single-author bylines are used when a review is the work of one contributor end to end. The contributors who write for us are real people who have agreed to put their names on what they produce.
Our methodology
Every review is built from three components:
- Editorial trial. The product is used daily on at least one dog from our editorial pool for a minimum of 4 weeks (most trials run 8 to 12 weeks). Conditions are logged, photographs are retained, adverse events are documented.
- Customer-review aggregation. We sample verified-buyer reviews from the brand's official store and from third-party review aggregators. The sample size for each product is disclosed inside the article. Theme analysis is performed manually by our editorial team.
- Veterinary observation. Where possible, we time editorial trials to overlap with a scheduled veterinary visit so a licensed clinician can document observable changes.
The full methodology is published on our standards page.
How we are funded
Affiliate revenue, exclusively. We do not accept paid placements, sponsored articles, or money in exchange for a positive verdict. A brand that pays us no commission gets reviewed using the same rubric.
